Brunello di Montalcino | A Wine Worth Aging
Brunello di Montalcino is one of the most famous Italian red wines that is ideal for aging. It is a prestigious wine, with international acclaim both in terms of taste and sales whose name and origin are undoubtedly Tuscan, from Montalcino, province of Siena.

The production territory for Brunello di Montalcino is well defined – just in the southeastern part of the region, not exactly very extensive as a territory but it’s made up for in production and technique. The grape variety used in Brunello di Montalcino is in pure form and is 100% large-berried Sangiovese.

The Brunello is an important and complex wine with a clear and bright color with evident nuances of garnet as well as scents of undergrowth and wood. The wine body is elegant and harmonious on the palate but also dry and persistent.

This wine is particularly suitable for aging, or better is suited for refinement. The Brunello before being bottled is aged in prized wooden barrels for at least 2 years, especially the Riserva. Barrels are kept in wine cellars with temperatures of 10° to 16°C. This allows for the taste to soften and absorb the aromas and perfumes of the barrels they are kept in.
After the wine is kept in wooden barrels, it is then bottled and set to rest for another 4 months (6 for Riserva) in the wine cellar in order to further the aroma and bouquet process.

The Brunello needs 4 years from the moment the grape is harvested to the time of sale. And it is surely a wine worth the wait.
