Thankful for Chianti Classico

As the Holiday season draws near, it’s never too early to start thinking about your food and wine pairings for your Thanksgiving feast. With so many traditional favorites to choose from, it’s easy to get lost on picking a wine for the table, and you could probably pick a different bottle for each dish on the table. However, If you’re looking for one bottle of food friendly wine that’s impossible to go wrong with, I recommend picking a bottle of Chianti Classico. Not only is this one of the highest quality wines from Italy, but it’s sure to breathe new life and zest into any heavy holiday meal.

Chianti Classico is top quality Sangiovese from the Chianti Classico D.O.C.G. zone. Grapes sit at higher elevations in this sub-region than those of the general Chianti region, which allows for a slower ripening, more acidity and more herbal qualities. The wine must age for a minimum of 12 months, and will have a black rooster sticker around the neck of the bottle. These wines have a high acidity and bright red fruit notes like cherry, raspberry, and strawberry rhubarb, making them incredibly food friendly for hearty food dishes.

Carpineto’s Chianti Classico is a perfect choice for pairing with your Thanksgiving feast. This bottle is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo, with aromas of red cherry, plum, tomato, cranberry, violet and plum on the nose. On the palate, juicy red fruits exploding with flavor, balanced but pronounced tannins and mouth-watering acidity. This will pair well with your Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing (bring on the sausage), mashed potatoes and veggies!
