5 Things You May Not Know About Wine
Wine gives us moments and notes of the past, and there are many more unknown aspects about the world of wine that are worth exploring.

That’s why we at Let It Wine love to share a few fun curiosities about wine. Here are five worth sharing:

1. The Origins of a Sommelier
Everyone knows that the sommelier plays a key role in the enological world – a role which formally praises the qualities of our favorite wines. But did you know that the term sommelier comes from a far from regal word. The origins of this word lie in the Napoleonic word saumalier, which meant “conductor of beasts of burden,” a term which defined the role of the person who helped transport wine which was typically carried by beasts of burden. Who would have though?

2. Italy Is One of the World’s Top Wine Producers
Almost fifty million hectoliters of wine per year are produced in Italy. This is a record quantity but do remember not to drink it all at once!

3. The Myth of the Metal Spoon
How many times have you been told to place a metal teaspoon into the neck of a wine bottle in order to preserve its freshness? Well, sorry to say but this is simply a myth. Drink in company and finish the bottle!

4. Climate Change
Climate change should not be underestimated, and the wine industry is an indicator of this. Some historic wine regions are becoming too hot to harvest, and countries like England and Norway are now producing exceptional wines due to warmer climates.

5. Wine of Antiquity
We all know that the origins of wine date back to ancient times, but did you know that the first residues of wine were found in Iran almost 7000 years ago!
